Keeping the Lost Sierra Clean — Recreation & Recycling Go Together

Protecting our recreational lands is an important part of EPRD's mission. The same forests, lakes, highways, trails and scenic byways that make Eastern Plumas County such a wonderful place to live and recreate are vulnerable to litter and improperly discarded beverage containers.

CRV bottles and cans should be recycled — not left along our highways, trails, campgrounds, waterways or forest floors, and not buried in our landfills.

EPRD is working in partnership with Grizzly Creek Services (GCS), Eastern Plumas County's local certified beverage-container recycling center, to encourage residents, visitors and especially our young people to understand how to recycle, where to recycle and why recycling matters.

A major part of that effort is EPRD's developing Recycle Ranger Education & Outreach Program, featuring our very own Rascal Ranger the Recycling Raccoon.

Rascal Ranger gives children a fun and memorable way to learn that everyone can help protect the Lost Sierra. Through community outreach, educational activities and recycling programs, EPRD wants young people to become our next generation of environmental stewards — and take those lessons home to their families.

Our message is simple:

Recycle your bottles and cans. Keep litter out of our forests and waterways. Protect wildlife. Keep the Lost Sierra beautiful.

Recreation and conservation belong together. Whether you're hiking a trail, fishing at Frenchman Lake, camping at Lake Davis, driving one of our scenic highways or simply enjoying your own neighborhood, leave it better than you found it.
