Margaret “Mimi” Garner
Margaret “Mimi” Garner has served as a Director of the Eastern Plumas Recreation District at various times since January 2014 and currently serves as President of the Board of Directors. A Plumas County resident since 1995, Mimi has spent more than three decades working, volunteering and participating in the communities of Eastern Plumas County.
A lifelong businesswoman and experienced California real estate broker, Mimi was the original developer of the 1,280-acre Gold Mountain community, now known as Nakoma. Her work included the development of hundreds of residential homesites, the Dragon Golf Course and the distinctive Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Nakoma Clubhouse, which has become a nationally recognized destination and has brought visitors from throughout the country and around the world to Plumas County.
Mimi continues to work as a California real estate broker and is a member of the Plumas Association of REALTORS®. Her background in real estate development, land use, community planning, marketing and project development brings a practical perspective to EPRD's efforts to develop new recreational opportunities for Eastern Plumas County.
Public and community service have also been an important part of Mimi's life. She has been a candidate for the Plumas County Board of Supervisors, District 5, in 2018, 2022 and 2026, and has remained actively involved in issues affecting Eastern Plumas County.
As EPRD Board President, Mimi is helping lead the District's renewed efforts to secure grants and partnerships, develop the District's five-acre Chilcoot property into a future Community Park and Recreation Center, expand recreational opportunities, and strengthen connections among the communities of Eastern Plumas County.
She also continues to advocate for long-term transportation and recreation opportunities for the region, including exploring the potential for future passenger rail service connecting Portola and the Lost Sierra with the Reno metropolitan area.
Mimi believes public service should produce tangible benefits for the people who live in the community. She enjoys bringing people and ideas together and turning possibilities into projects.
When she's not working on real estate or community projects, Mimi enjoys mountain living, dog walking, bird watching, Jeeping, hiking, pet sitting and golfing — sometimes.
