Marcia “MAR-see-uh” Boswell — Secretary

Marcia (“MAR-see-uh”) Boswell serves as Secretary of the Eastern Plumas Recreation District Board of Directors and brings more than 50 years of business, tourism, retail, writing and community experience to the District.

Marcia and her late husband, John Boswell, were longtime business owners with roots in both Nevada and Plumas County. John was a Nevada real estate broker for many years, and together they owned and operated RV parks in Reno. Property they once owned along South Virginia Street is now part of the area occupied by the Peppermill Resort Casino.

Their connection with Plumas County began long before they became permanent residents. During the 1970s, Marcia and John regularly came to Plumas County to recreate and enjoy the mountains. They eventually made Plumas County their full-time home approximately 36 years ago.

Marcia has owned and operated Happy Hunting Ground Antiques and the Graeagle Emporium, combining her love of history with a lifetime of retail and business experience. Her antique shop is located in Graeagle's historic 1913 schoolhouse, where visitors can spend hours discovering collectibles, antiques and reminders of American life from generations past. To Marcia, preserving these treasures is also a way of preserving the stories behind them.

Her career has been as varied as the treasures in her shop. In the 1960s and 1970s, Marcia worked as a men's barber in Minneapolis. She later became involved in travel writing and contributed to a national travel publication. She has also written and edited an NRA newsletter for decades.

An enthusiastic regional historian, Marcia has accumulated extensive knowledge of Plumas County pioneers, early regional history, Reno's colorful casino and gambling history, and the people and businesses that helped shape Northern Nevada and the Lost Sierra. Her storytelling and historical knowledge bring another important dimension to EPRD's efforts to connect recreation with the history and character of our region.

As a longtime retailer and businesswoman, Marcia also understands marketing, merchandising, tourism and what attracts visitors to a destination — experience that can help EPRD as it develops its future Chilcoot Community Park and Recreation Center and promotes recreation throughout Eastern Plumas County.

Marcia is particularly excited about helping EPRD develop its Rascal Ranger Recycling & Education Program for children and families. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she believes strongly in giving young people opportunities to learn, explore and develop an appreciation for their communities and the outdoors.

As Board Secretary, Marcia brings history, business experience, creativity and enthusiasm to EPRD. Most importantly, she wants to see the Recreation District succeed and become an organization that Eastern Plumas County residents can enjoy and be proud of for generations to come.
