Brandon Smith — Treasurer

Brandon Smith serves as Treasurer of the Eastern Plumas Recreation District Board of Directors and brings the District valuable hands-on experience in forestry, heavy equipment operation, construction and working the land.

A hardworking local business owner, husband and father, Brandon has lived in Sierra Valley for the past six years with his wife, Dani, and their two children, Gus and Oakland. The Smith family enjoys the rural lifestyle that makes Eastern Plumas County such a special place to live and raise a family.

Brandon spent several years working in the forest and is a Class C tree feller, highly skilled with a chainsaw and experienced operating a wide variety of equipment. Today, he works as an equipment operator alongside Caltrans road crews on Highway 70 improvement projects.

That practical experience is especially important to EPRD as the District begins the process of transforming its five acres of undeveloped land in Chilcoot into its first Community Park and Recreation Center.

Brandon is helping EPRD obtain preliminary bids and information for site preparation, grading, septic and leach-field requirements, percolation testing and other groundwork necessary to determine what it will take to develop the property. His knowledge of equipment and site work gives the Board an experienced set of eyes as it evaluates contractors, costs and practical ways to develop the property.

EPRD is also exploring ways the Chilcoot property could begin generating limited operating revenue as development progresses, including the potential for temporary recreational vehicle, boat, ATV and truck storage after appropriate portions of the property are graded and graveled and all necessary approvals are obtained. Any revenue-generating use would help support the District's larger goal of developing the property for public recreation.

Brandon is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, outdoor sports and spending time with his children. As a father raising two young children in Eastern Plumas County, he understands firsthand the importance of creating more places where local children and families can recreate close to home.

Community involvement is very much a Smith family affair. Dani manages their family ranch, including chickens, pigs and other 4-H animals, while raising their children. She is also active in their church, where she works with children in Sunday Bible study and participates in music ministry.

Brandon brings to EPRD the perspective of a young working family, an outdoorsman, a business owner and an experienced equipment operator. As EPRD turns five acres of raw land into a community asset, his practical knowledge will be invaluable.

The Smith family represents something EPRD greatly values: local families volunteering their time and talents to make Eastern Plumas County a better place to live, work, raise children and recreate.
